The Association of women of Assemini

One of the talents of woman is stakhanovism. Woman is always dynamic; she is able to do various activities; tiredness is put into the background. Unfortunately, often the opportunity of emerging and showing her skills is not given to feminine figure. The only way for being someone is demonstrating it and fighting until obtaining this right.


The Association of women of Assemini was born in December 1999, because they felt the need to guarantee a space for women, since nobody had thought to this issue yet. There is not the mentality of including the feminine figures into the groups already effective.


The first activities made by the members of the Association concerned dances, gymnastic and theatrical activities. The work on the stage is still present: indeed, it is important an event that renews each year, Luisiccu S’Arruxiadori, a Sardinian comedy with one act, during which the main subject is different for each show. Then, there are dances, during the evening, for satisfying both who is old and who is young.


Instead, the physical activities decreased progressively, because of the lack of suitable spaces. Often there is the proposal of collaborations with gyms both about sport activities both self-defense. But, they are sometimes simple ideas that have some difficulty for being realized.

Later, other purposes were added both for extending the agenda of proposals presented by the Association, and for offering various services to a most extended group of users. They thought to add hand activities, such as needlework and the recovery of the technique of macramé, a work made until that time by an only lady of this village.


Cooking and the preparation of foods and typical dishes of the Region, such as sa panada or various kinds of bread, are other opportunities for staying with other people and spending a different day. It is important the work about the literacy for non-European people, too, through lessons aimed at the study, the knowledge, the culture and the social insertion. Young individuals are in the first line and they have a particular interest for the hobbies that are offered. Vitality and energy are at the order of the day, such as that they chose to take part to literary contests and to offer their own collaboration for the publication of two books, one about breastfeeding and the other about old photos of Assemini village.


During these events, normally, the Association is involved in the preparation of the tastes. A lot of public performances happen in the squares and in the Amphitheater of Assemini. Every years there are the fixed dates, but, when there is the economical possibility, they try to organize new events.
The event called The festival of the fregola consists in an initial preparation and in the next cooking of the fregola. The happening lasts from 19.00 until midnight. A possible idea is that concerning the addition of an exposition of the products created by artisans. Five years ago there was the realization of a project relative to a course for the preparation of the fregola, the bread, the panada and the cakes addressing to the schoolchildren.


The event called From the seed to the bread is very known and, during it, the members of the Association practice the techniques learnt during a previous course about the bread. For a whole day, they are involved in the exposition of all the products that can derive from the bread.
The determination for creating new projects will not never lack and the women of the Association will not never finish working for the improvement and the power of their own village.
